The PAD (Performing Arts and Dining) project was the first element of our Lingfield College master plan, with the project considered and positioned such that it would solve eight of the college’s key difficulties while unlocking multiple future opportunities.
The first phase of this project fundamentally transformed the way the building and surrounding campus functioned, with a reimagination of the existing monolithic façade and a new inviting entrance and vista.
It also saw the reconfiguration of the senior school 1970s kitchen and dining spaces, the latter redesigned to become a calm, comfortable space not only for mealtimes, but for functions, breakout study and entertainment or events.
The retrofit of the dining hall saw the reverberation time reduced by a factor of three, to provide an acoustically comfortable dining space, while new mechanical ventilation systems provided four air changes per hour with minimal heat loss. A state of the art, bespoke servery was provided, which alongside the new kitchen, allowed the school to serve fresh, healthy meals on a daily basis. Aesthetically the spaces were transformed, and now reflect the excellent pastoral care which he college provide to their students.
Phase 2 could see the dining space eventually link through the ‘Street’, and bring the same fresh energy to the Performing Arts areas, including a refurbished and upgraded multi-use auditorium for the music, drama and dance faculties.
