Hedges Law, Chipping Norton

Grade II Listed building

Transformation and regeneration of abandoned High Street Building.

Delivering the visions of a hospitality-focused law firm

Previously home to a Newsagents and more recently standing empty on the High Street of Chipping Norton for several years, this Grade II listed building has been transformed as part of a project to bring Hedges Law, a law firm with 235 years of history in Oxfordshire to this historic town and help regenerate the town.

Working with Hedges Law has been a delight, as Managing Director Nikki Poole offers a clear understanding of who their potential clients are and the service which they want to deliver for them.  Not only does it make a successful business for them, but means we can formulate and bring to life a design which helps them achieve that.

The design is a collaboration between ourselves in designing the spaces and they way they subtly provide a client journey which begins before they've even reached the building, while the interior design finishes are born from the imagination of Nikki in collaboration with ourselves.  The result creates a hospitality-focused approach to law - the idea that passers by are attracted to, and feel invited into the building and when they arrive are presented with a variety of spaces to make them feel that they have agency to talk about their needs.

There are three distinct zones in reception - a comfortable Chesterfield zone for semi-private meetings, a coffee bar for informal interactions and seats under the fabulous artwork to provide an informal zone - something to suit everyone.  There is a separate private meeting space and the solicitors work separately, though connected visually through Crittall-style windows to the front of house space.

The materials are a mixture of natural and organic, e.g. wooden flooring through to textured wall paper and a concrete coffee bar.  Most of the furniture is reused second hand, each piece coming with its own story and contributing to the overall harmony of the space.

We are very delighted to see this project complete, hear the positive feedback of the staff and see how the design is helping them grow their business.
