Former George Hotel, Mitcheldean
Sustainable reuse of a brownfield site as a catalyst to regenerate the town centre
Re-imagined public space with community and affordable housing opportunities
On the site of the former George Hotel in the heart of the town, a large pile of rubble and a two abandoned, derelict buildings were left to have a negative impact on the entire townscape and the rich history it boasts.
This sustainable regeneration re-imagines the existing buildings, bringing them back to life by creating a multi-use community building facing onto a new public space. The intervention creates a beautiful, complimentary space at the heart of the town for all to enjoy.
Simple, complementary building along the southern edge provides much needed affordable housing and in turn help re-establish Micheldean as a gateway to the wider region of the Forest of Dean.
